Located south of Lima in the Punta Negra beach town, you can reach it with a 30 minutes car ride. Probably with Chicama should be one of the most famous points of Perú, for its consistency, quality and size of the wave. Even if Punta Rocas is a big wave, it is easy to surf and to drop, and it's a wave that any surfer visiting Perú must surf at least once during his/her stay. Punta Rocas hosted 5 ASP events in the nineties, as well as one world champ in 1965, and a big number of international events, which brought big names in surfing history as Gerry Lopez, Jeff Hackman, Andy Irons, among others, to enjoy those beautiful waves. As his name indicates, is a rocky point that you can surf in both sides. You can ride it from 3 to 12 foot; the long of the ride may vary between short in small days to very long in big days. It is the most consistent wave in Peru, you can really ride it almost every day of the year, even if the best months are between March and May. The boards recommended may go from 6'4 to 8 foot, depending on the size of the wave and the conditions of the paddle out. There is a very strong and tubular beach brake that is one of the favorite spots for body boarders. During the summer season, the Punta Rocas beach is visited by hundreds of people and there are many good fish restaurants that allows you to enjoy a typical raw fish specialty with a cold beer on a white sandy beach. |
