Puerto Viejo Beach

Located 72 Km south of Lima at approximately one hour car ride. It's a left point over a sandbar, with long and tubular waves. Looks a little like Chicama, but not so long and perfect. It's an ideal wave for performing lots of maneuvers. Even if the place works all year long, the wave can show significant changes for the swell direction or for the position of the sandbar. Usually the best months to surf this beach are between May and November. The wave closeout if get bigger than 7 foot. Boards recommended are from 6'1 to 6'6. When the swell is too small, there is a beach brake in the same beach called, PUERTO JOVEN. It is a tubular wave very appreciated by body boarders and young radical surfers. You can arrive to Puerto Viejo by car or in a bus called "Maleño;" the walk to the beach will take approximately 20 minutes.

Aspects on favor of surfing in Peru - Why surfing in Perú is so cool!
In our country the coast is shark free, none of our beaches has a shark problem. It has never been reported a shark attack to a surfer, something that frequently happens in Australia, South Africa, Hawaii, Florida and, in less degree, in California. The ocean's temperature is also adequate, and it varies according to the seasons along the year. In general it is necessary to use a neoprene wetsuit, but never anyone that surfed the Peruvian waves has being able to say that the cold water kept them from surfing.
